AI startups saw the most investments in Q4

According to the number of conducted investments, the AI startups lead the market with a total of 38 investments in the broader industry. Followed by FinTech and Health Care startups with 26 investments.

Two €150 million funding rounds

In Q4, Munich-based The Exploration Company secured a €150 million Series B round, the largest funding round in Germany of the quarter together with 1Komma5’s €150 million Venture Round.

Most investment rounds were Seed Rounds (35%). Despite that, the largest volume of $384.6 million was invested in 33 Venture Rounds.

Bayern Kapital and HTGF were the most active VC investors in Germany

Regarding the investors behind those funding rounds, Bayern Kapital and HTGF emerged as the most active VC investors, completing 7 deals each. With this, they lead ahead of Atlantic Labs (4 deals), BMH (3 deals) and D11Z.Ventures (3 deals) among the top 5.

Berlin is Germany’s VC hotspot, while Munich takes the 2nd spot

The most investments in Q4 were conducted in Berlin (51), followed by Munich (23) and Hamburg (6).

When ranking by investment volume instead of the number of conducted investments, Ratingen ($137.0 million), takes the 4th place.
